President's Message

Thank you for visiting the AGA DC Chapter's website. Our chapter proudly boasts over 1,700 members and numerous activities including educational conferences, community service events, a mentoring program, CGFM and other training, as well as an early careers network and frequent social events to promote AGA and governmental financial integrity. Despite our size, we are unified in our pursuit of improving financial integrity at governmental entities and providing timely, useful information to our program personnel and the American taxpayers.

I am happy to note that Government accountants can proudly boast that they are a great investment for taxpayers as they routinely save taxpayer dollars. Did you know that if the internal controls we design, implement, and support everyday prevent at least 1/3 of 1% of waste and abuse in the 2010 budget, we have MORE than paid for ourselves?

In the last few months, the DC Chapter Officers and Committee Chairs have worked together to develop a variety of new programs and methods of reaching out to our members in the upcoming months with the over-arching strategic goal of "Improving the Value of AGA Membership."

In addition to finding new ways to answer the question: "What's in it for me?" regarding AGA membership, I plan to challenge both the AGA DC committees and the AGA DC chapter members at large to consider new ways of promoting the value of the Federal financial management industry. There are two dimensions to this challenge as we seek to: 1) consider new ideas regarding WHAT our industry reports; and 2) HOW it is reported.

The AGA DC chapter has scheduled monthly luncheon meetings to be held at Clyde's at Gallery Place Metro Center and at the Washington DC University Club. We have educational speakers scheduled for each meeting, where attendees will earn one hour of Continued Professional Education (CPE) credit.

Our Education plan allows members to take advantage of free courses being paid for by the DC Chapter. In addition to CGFM courses this year, we have audio conferences scheduled and will host our May Conference again at the Ronald Reagan building this May. This conference offers an opportunity for members to hear from industry leaders, obtain CPE credit, and network with other AGA members. In addition to the incredible Educational events we have planned this year, we also have great member service events planned.

As in prior years, we will again support charitable organizations. This year's list of organizations we will be supporting include the USO, Habitat for Humanity, ALS Walk, Brain Tumor Foundations, Toys for Tots, and others. In the months ahead, we will focus on the details of providing increased value to our members with further opportunities for education and research, community service, CGFM training, mentoring, early career support, and social networking. For more information regarding any of these and other events, please feel free to browse our website.
